Selim Süme and Özgür Öğütcen's new book 'Tekerrür' is out / İstanbul

Tekerrür, the new book by Selim Süme and Özgür Öğütcen is out.

Tekerrür analyzes how the image becomes an object of desire through the gaze, how history and memory are rewritten over time, the role of the photograph in this process and how our relationship with the image is positioned in memory.

We will meet on March 11, Friday between18.00 and 21:00 at Karşı Sanat to share Rec Collective's latest publication and to discuss it. There will be a talk moderated by Ezgi Bakçay on the gaze, the portrait and representation of the photograph.

'Inferno 00:00' by Sevim Sancaktar is exhibited at Muse Istanbul'da.

Inferno 00:00 by Sevim Sancaktar is participating in the exhibition curated by Işın Önöl and the other artists are Fatih Aydoğdu, Burçak Bingöl, Teresa Henriques, Olivier Hözl, Berat Işık, Gözde İlkin, Julia Oldham, Pınar Öğrenci, Yasemin Özcan, Sevim Sancaktar, İrem Tok, Pınar Yoldaş, and Maja Vukoje.

Sevim Sancaktar’s installation Inferno 00:00 consists of several layers of information that deal with individual and urban memories that are under constant bombardment with images. She focuses on the dynamics of normalization processes of as well as the connection between perception and memory. Sancaktar collects numerous sound and video recordings mainly from celebrations/explosions, as well as images from news, and connects them with a person who is following a screen saver animation without any reaction, creating a unique environment, dealing with the notion of memory and its constructed ‘hell’ within life. Borrowing the title Inferno from Dante’s Divine Comedy, she studies how the astonishing effect of conflicting images and information gets normalized, internalized and becomes part of the collective memory, throughout history.

Melisa Önel's debut film "Seaburners" premiered at 64th Berlin Film Festival, Forum Section.

“The starting point of this story is the sea... A physical and symbolic border that people did not dare trespass for centuries, the sea continues to be a barrier between geographies, people and dreams. Themed around characters on the edge of that border, their dead-ends, Seaburners is a film that concentrates on the cyclical characteristic of time.” – Melisa Önel
